Report: Giants hiring Laura Young as director of coaching operations

The Giants have built much of their new-look front office by hiring people away from the Bills, as new general manager Joe Schoen has brought along a handful of his previous colleagues from Buffalo. Schoen convinced another one of his old associates to head southeast to the Big Apple on Wednesday night — and this time made history in the process.

The Giants are hiring Laura Young to be their new director of coaching operations, according to ESPN's Jordan Raanan and Field Yates. Young is believed to be the first woman hired in a coaching-related role by the Giants.

Young comes to New York after previously serving as the player services coordinator in Buffalo. According to a profile story on the Bills' website from March 2021, Young's normal duties entailed helping players and their families in transitioning to Buffalo while also assisting the player-development staff.

Once the pandemic hit, Young took on a significant role in orchestrating the Bills' COVID testing and protocol procedures. She helped manage testing schedules for players and staff, contact tracing of positive cases and overall testing procedures in addition to her regular duties.

Schoen has hired a stable of Bills staffers since taking over the reins of the Giants. Most notably, he hired Buffalo's offensive coordinator Brian Daboll to be his head coach, but he's poached a number of others from the Bills as well, including new quarterbacks coach Shea Tierney and offensive line coach Bobby Johnson.
