The Green Bay Packers finished up their rookie minicamp last weekend. One of the players who was turning heads was Canadian quarterback Tayler Elgersma. While Jordan Love has the starting job locked down, having depth at the quarterback position is never a bad thing. Many players, including Elgersma, were invited to the rookie minicamp, but that doesn’t necessarily mean they are guaranteed a roster spot. Some undrafted free agents attend multiple rookie camps, hoping teams will like what they see. The Packers must have liked what they saw out of Elgersma, as they have reportedly signed him to a contract.
According to an @NFL source, the @packers are expected to offer a contract to former @Laurier QB Taylor Elgersma. Elgersma attended mini-camp with the Packers last weekend and had been planning to attend @BuffaloBills mini-camp May 9-10th. #NFL

The Green Bay Packers’ top two quarterback spots are locked up. Love and Malik Willis will be the top two on the depth chart, but the third spot is wide open. Last year’s QB3 was rookie Sean Clifford. While he showed some promise in the preseason, the team ultimately decided they needed an upgrade, trading with the Titans for Willis. Taylor Elgersma was taken 18th overall in the CFL draft, and insiders have been raving about his arm.
The timing of this move is significant. Elgersma was set to attend the Buffalo Bills rookie minicamp this weekend, but the Green Bay Packers made sure he didn’t leave town. That says something about what they think of the young signal-caller. Every roster spot is important, and the Packers are making sure they have plenty of competition in training camp.
Any quarterback move is interesting in the NFL. The Green Bay Packers have a long history of backups going through the organization and winning starting jobs elsewhere. If Elgersma impresses this offseason, he may end up getting a shot in the NFL, whether it is in Green Bay or elsewhere.
