The Green Bay Packers will open the 2025 NFL season at home against the Detroit Lions in a Sunday showdown, per Fox Sports’ Jordan Schultz. The game will kick off on September 7th at 4:25 p.m. ET.
It’ll be an intriguing matchup between the NFC North rivals, but the Lions have a bit of an advantage. They’re coming off a season beating the Packers twice in 2024.
Both look for return trips to the playoffs in 2025 and it begins Week 1. The Packers opened last season with a 34-29 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in Brazil. Now, they’ll have the advantage of playing at home at Lambeau Field.
Speaking of the Eagles, the Packers will host the Super Bowl champions in Week 10. It’s slated for a Monday Night Football showdown. During their Wild Card battle, the Packers’ offense simply couldn’t get anything done against the Eagles’ defense. Philadelphia raced out to a 10-0 lead in the first quarter, and that lasted until halftime.
Green Bay got it within six early in the fourth quarter, due to a Josh Jacobs touchdown run. Subsequently, Jake Elliott would nail a field goal to put the Eagles up nine, and they would never look back, moving on to the NFC Divisional Round in the process.
We all know how it ended for the Eagles, on top of the NFL world, when it was all said and done. Who knows where each team will stand in Week 10, but Philadelphia and Green Bay are slated to be two of the top teams in the NFL this season, and it’s easy to see why the league announced this one early.
The Packers were one of the few teams with games revealed early before the Wednesday release. The NFL will release the schedule in full, showcasing every single matchup for the 2025 season.
It’s safe to say the NFL is high on Green Bay again, one of the bigger brands in the league. But with what they bring back, including QB Jordan Love coming off leading the Packers to the playoffs again, Green Bay will be in the mix for a championship.
