Report: Jadeveon Clowney re-signs with Browns on one-year deal

The Cleveland Browns are bringing back defensive end Jadeveon Clowney on a one-year, $11 million deal, according to Pro Football Network's Aaron Wilson.

Clowney, 29, spent the 2021 season with the Browns and finished with nine sacks, his most since his final season with the Houston Texans in 2018. His sack total was second most on the team behind only Myles Garrett, who finished third in the NFL with 16 sacks.

The deal marks the first time in Clowney's career that he has signed a second contract with a team. He spent the first five seasons of his career with Houston after he was picked first overall in the 2014 NFL Draft.

While he earned three consecutive trips to the Pro Bowl with Houston, Clowney struggled to produce in stints with the Seattle Seahawks and Tennessee Titans. The bounce-back season in Cleveland was enough to convince Clowney that he should return, as he reportedly turned down more money and multiyear deals to stay with the Browns.

Earlier in the offseason, the Browns acquired pass-rusher Chase Winovich in a trade with the New England Patriots and signed former Jacksonville Jaguars defensive tackle Taven Bryan. The team also added to its defensive front in the 2022 NFL Draft by selecting UAB defensive end Alex Wright and Oklahoma defensive tackle Perrion Winfrey.
