Report: Jets want La’el Collins in any Jamal Adams trade with Cowboys

New York Jets safety Jamal Adams requested a trade from the organization after being fed up with contract negotiations, and he made it known that his ideal destination is the Dallas Cowboys.

The Jets likely would command a first-round pick in a trade involving Adams, but in a potential deal with the Cowboys, New York reportedly would be looking to bolster their roster by adding a veteran as a centerpiece in a deal.

“I’m told right now that the player the Jets would ask for in a trade for Adams would be right tackle La’el Collins,” Tony Pauline of Pro Football Network said. “That’s the player that they want. That’s the player that they’re going to target … If you’re a Jets fan, you know one thing – you can’t start the season with Chuma Edoga starting at right tackle.”

Trading for Adams and keeping him around for the long haul may be difficult financially for Dallas who will be making a long-term investment in quarterback Dak Prescott. While Adams currently has two years remaining on his current deal, he's made it known that he's looking for a massive pay day ... and the Cowboys probably won't be able to shell out the dough with the organizations commitments to Prescott, Ezekiel Elliott and Amari Cooper, among others.

However, Dallas has been interested in Adams for a while now. They first made their interest known at the trade deadline in October, and were even engaged in discussions with the Jets regarding the young safety. Talks fell through, though, and Adams became even more disgruntled with his situation in New York.

It's not surprising that Adams wants to play for Jerry Jones and the Cowboys. The 24-year-old grew up in the Dallas area and played football at Hebron High School in Carrollton, Texas, which is 31 miles from AT&T Stadium.

If the Cowboys truly want Adams, though, they'll have to compete with a number of other teams reportedly interested in him. The Baltimore Ravens, Houston Texans, Kansas City Chiefs, Philadelphia Eagles, San Francisco 49ers and Seattle Seahawks are also reportedly among the suitors for Adams' services ...  and New York certainly will be talking to any team they can snag a veteran right tackle from.
