REPORT: Jimmy Garoppolo an Option for Miami at Quarterback
Cameron Wolfe of the NFL Network reports that if the price tag for free agent quarterback Malik Willis gets too high, expect Miami to look at Jimmy Garoppolo as an option at quarterback.
Per Wolfe, Garoppolo would be a less expensive option at quarterback, and he has experience with Miami’s new offensive coordinator, Bobby Slowik.
Slowik and Garoppolo were both in San Francisco for the same time period, 2017 to 2022. Slowik was an offensive coach on that staff with Garoppolo from 2019 to 2022, as a pass game specialist and passing game coordinator.
Next big Dolphins offseason question centers at QB.
A look at trade Tua Tagovailoa scenario (if they add sweeteners – money or a pick) and who could be the next starting QB?

Garoppolo has played in 85 total games, starting 64 of them. His teams have a 43-21 record when he starts a game.
He hasn’t played much the last two seasons. He played 3 games in 2025, starting none, and didn’t throw a pass in any of them.
In 2024, he played in 1 game, a game in which he did start, and threw for 334 yards, 2 touchdowns, and 1 interception.
In 2023, he played in 7 games, started 6, and his team was 3-3 in those starts.
For his career, he has thrown 96 touchdowns and 52 interceptions and has a completion percentage of 67.4%
He is a two-time Super Bowl champion (as a backup), but he was the starting quarterback for San Francisco in Super Bowl 49, in which his team had a 20-10 lead entering the 4th quarter, but San Fran’s defense gave up 21 points in the final quarter, and his team lost.
Garoppolo is also the 2013 Walter Payton Man of the Year.
While Malik Willis may be the goal, a player like Garoppolo may be a more realistic option for the Dolphins.
He is that seasoned vet who is a perfect complement to be in the quarterback room with Quinn Ewers.
They can compete for the starting job and may the best man win.
And regardless of who wins that job, he is also the perfect mentor for a young quarterback like Quinn Ewers, and if Garoppolo stays in Miami beyond one season, he would be the perfect complement to whoever Miami drafts as their quarterback of the future in 2027.
