Report: Kansas City Chiefs Were Only NFL Team Not Allowed To Trade For Star Wide Receiver
Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

The Kansas City Chiefs are literally the envy of the entire NFL. They should be this offseason as they embark on the opportunity to complete a threepeat next February. The Chiefs’ status as the team everyone wants to beat kept them from trading for Buffalo Bills star wide receiver Stefon Diggs.

The Buffalo Bills traded Stefon Diggs to An AFC contender

On Wednesday, the Bills traded Diggs to the Houston Texans. It’s an interesting trade from the Bills’ standpoint because the Texans appear to be an up-and-coming power in the AFC. Quarterback C.J. Stroud led the Texans to the Divisional Round in his rookie season last year. Diggs could be an acquisition that would help the Texans go further in the playoffs or potentially to a Super Bowl in the upcoming season.

Diggs wasn’t allowed to go to the Kansas City Chiefs

However, the Bills were willing to risk that chance. Per Chris Simms speaking on PFT Live, Diggs was allowed to seek a trade for any team in the league sans the defending Super Bowl champs.

From what I do know, [Diggs] was allowed to see a trade from anybody in the league except the Kansas City Chiefs,” Simms said. “That’s what I’ve been told by multiple people.”

Diggs wants to beat the Chiefs

Simms’ report is interesting in light of the likely reasoning coming out behind Diggs’s choice of the Texans. Former NFL wide receiver DeSean Jackson said Diggs chose the Texans because they’re his bet to surpass the Chiefs in the playoffs.

The Chiefs did improve in the wide receiver room this offseason. They added Marquise “Hollywood” Brown to the roster and are expected to draft a rookie. Unfortunately, the Chiefs don’t know what Rashee Rice’s status will be this summer and fall.

But the Chiefs will have to explore avenues to improve in free agency and the draft. The league is afraid of making the monster in Kansas City even bigger.
