Report: Los Angeles Chargers’ Draft Intentions Following Shocking WR Keenan Allen Trade Made Clearer

The Los Angeles Chargers have made several notable moves this offseason. Some were good such as finding ways to keep both Khalil Mack and Joey Bosa. However, this came at a cost.

That cost was the Chargers’ dynamic duo wide receivers. Los Angeles announced that they were going to release Mike Williams and they traded Keenan Allen to the Chicago Bears. So, what does that mean moving forward? It means we have a much better idea of what the Chargers are doing with their fifth overall pick in the draft.

Los Angeles Chargers Need a Wide Receiver

The Chargers’ latest moves have created an obvious gap on their roster. That comes at the wide receiver position. As a result, the Chargers may choose to address this need via the draft.

Los Angeles is in a good position to do just that. As mentioned above, the Chargers have the fifth overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. Best of all, there is a deep wide receiver class that the Chargers can choose from.

Top Wide Receivers Available in the Draft

So, who are the most notable wide receivers available in this year’s draft? We can start with Marvin Harrison Jr. from Ohio State. He is regarded by many as the best wide receiver available. On top of this, he is the son of Hall of Fame wide receiver Marvin Harrison.

Harrison Jr. is not just a prodigy. He had 1,211 receiving yards last season along with 14 touchdown receptions and even a rushing touchdown. However, because of Harrison Jr.’s immense talent, he may not be available by the time the Chargers get to pick in the draft.

If that was not enough, there is also Rome Odunze from Washington. He helped lead the Huskies to a national championship appearance last season. Odunze did this by putting up 1,640 receiving yards, 13 touchdown receptions, and a rushing touchdown.

Finally, we have Malik Nabers. He had 1,569 receiving yards and 14 touchdown receptions. Nabers can also arguably be given some credit for QB Jayden Daniels taking home the Heisman Trophy last season.

Los Angeles Chargers Moving Forward

With the departure of their top two wide receivers, the Chargers are looking for a fresh start for QB Justin Herbert. With head coach Jim Harbaugh now in charge, he has the option to work with one of these elite receivers from the college level.
