Report: New Orleans Saints to sign safety to three-year deal
Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

The New Orleans Saints to sign a safety

The New Orleans Saints captured the free agency prize of the NFL offseason. The team signed veteran quarterback Derek Carr after he was released by the Las Vegas Raiders. The Saints were able to make the signing with limited cap space this offseason. They appear ready to strike another deal to extend a safety which is more of a special teams participant.

According to Ian Rapoport with the NFL Network, the Saints are getting ready to sign JT Gray to a three-year deal. Gray is set to make $9.6 million from the deal, with $2.4 million from the signing. The max Gray can make with incentives is $11.1 million.

That’s a pretty sweet deal for a player who primarily contributes as a special teams player. The team still has much to do for their cap situation before free agency next week. According to Over The Cap, the Saints are over $25 million in the red.
