Report: Patriots OC Josh McDaniels to interview for Eagles' HC job

New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels admitted last month that he "absolutely" wants to be a head coach in the NFL again. He's among the hottest candidates for head-coaching vacancies across the league, so it seems like he'll get his chance sooner rather than later.

According to The Athletic's Bo Wulf and Zac Jackson, McDaniels is set to interview for the Philadelphia Eagles' head-coaching job. He'll fly to Florida to meet with Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie on Sunday.

Wulf and Jackson say that Philadelphia hiring McDaniels would be "considered controversial" because of fans' hate for the Patriots and Lurie's New England connections. They add that McDaniels has begun recruiting the coaching staff he would hope to bring with him to Philadelphia if hired.

McDaniels was last a head coach with the Denver Broncos in 2009 and 2010. He was announced as head coach of the Indianapolis Colts in 2018 before ultimately deciding to return to New England.

Since rejecting the Colts' gig, McDaniels has had interviews with the Green Bay Packers and Cleveland Browns. He had interviews scheduled with the Carolina Panthers and New York Giants last spring, but both teams hired coaches before meeting with him.

As head coach of the Broncos, McDaniels went 11-17. He was fired in 2010 after a Week 13 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.

Since firing Doug Pederson after five seasons, the Eagles have interviewed Carolina Panthers offensive coordinator Joe Brady, Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive coordinator Todd Bowles, and New England Patriots assistant Jerod Mayo.
