The New England Patriots are certainly doing their due diligence when it comes to the top quarterbacks in this year's draft.
Trevor Lawrence, Zach Wilson, Justin Fields, Mac Jones and Trey Lance are the five quarterbacks expected to be taken in the first round, and the Patriots have attended each of their Pro Days.
Lawrence and Wilson are expected to go first and second overall, but New England could end up having a choice of Jones, Fields and Lance if it was to move up in the draft. Because of this, the Patriots are reportedly sending two top executives, Eliot Wolf and Dave Ziegler, to Lance's second Pro Day, according to Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer.
Lance is considered to be the fifth-best QB in the draft. However, he had a solid 2019 campaign, completing 66.9% of his passes for 2,786 yards and 28 touchdowns against zero interceptions. He also ran for 1,100 yards and 14 scores.
The Patriots also sent top scouts to Fields' second Pro Day and the club is reportedly "really high" on the Ohio State product.
If New England does draft a quarterback, that player will likely spend the 2021 campaign learning under Cam Newton, who signed another one-year deal with the Patriots this offseason and is expected to be the starter.
