The Pittsburgh Steelers are signing veteran receiver Robert Woods to a one-year deal, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. Woods, 33, immediately becomes the elder statesman of the Steelers’ receiver room.
He spent the last two seasons with the Houston Texans, suiting up in 29 games. Woods hauled in 60 receptions for 629 yards and one touchdown. This past season, he tallied a career-low 20 receptions for 203 yards.
A 12-year NFL veteran, Woods has come down with 683 catches for 8,233 yards and 38 touchdowns throughout his career. His best season came in 2018 as a member of the Los Angeles Rams, 86 receptions, 1,219 yards, six scores.
The Steelers did not address the position in the 2025 NFL Draft. Enter Woods, who should, at the very least, help out as a blocker. Pittsburgh also continues the trend of signing experienced receivers to team friendly deals. In 2023, it was Allen Robinson. Last year, it was Van Jefferson.
The Steelers receiver room now includes Woods, George Pickens, Calvin Austin III, Roman Wilson, Scotty Miller and DK Metcalf. The latter was acquired from the Seattle Seahawks in exchange for a second-round pick.
Of course, the big question is who will be throwing them the ball. Mason Rudolph and Skylar Thompson came in during free agency. Pittsburgh selected former Ohio State quarterback Will Howard in the sixth round this past Saturday.
But what about Aaron Rodgers? The 41-year-old has yet to decide if he wants to continue his playing career. At this point, it appears it’s Steelers or bust. Rapoport said Monday that the team believes Rodgers will eventually sign.
“From Art Rooney, it sounds like he was like, I think we’re getting closer to a decision, we are confident that Rodgers is coming, I believe was the way he phrased it,” Rapoport said on The Pat McAfee Show. “They think Rodgers is coming. I think Rodgers is gonna be [going there] … I think everyone in the world thinks that [it will happen].”
