Report: Raiders Have Turned Down Multiple Teams' Inquiries About $33 Million Starter

The Las Vegas Raiders are expected to be sellers at this year's NFL trade deadline.

Since their win over the New England Patriots in the season opener, the team has looked bad.

They are 1-4 in their last five with a couple of blowout losses and the lone win coming over the Tennessee Titans.

Despite that, it seems they have been hesitant about trading one of the most interesting assets they have to offer right now.

According to NFL insider Josina Anderson, the Raiders have received inquiries from multiple teams about wide receiver Jakobi Meyers over the past two weeks, but have turned those teams away.

Meyers has been a name brought up in trade speculation for more than a month now since he put in a request to be traded as a result of a contract standstill. With the Raiders struggling early on in this season and Meyers struggling with them, the speculation about his future has only grown.

Insider Adam Schefter even recently included Meyers on a list of players who executives and coaches are expecting to be on the trade block ahead of the deadline.

It seemed like we may finally be on the way to some kind of resolution when Meyers missed practice on a Wednesday, a move that some believed was an indication that he was about to be traded.

Now it seems that may not have actually been the reason for Meyers' absence.

The Raiders turning down overtures for a Meyers trade really doesn't make sense at this point.

Vegas has struggled this year and doesn't look the part of a team with playoff aspirations. A win over the lowly Titans (who fired their coach shortly after) doesn't change that.

Meyers hasn't been a particularly meaningful piece of the offense in recent weeks. Over the last three games, Meyers has only accounted for 101 receiving yards.

He is not under contract beyond this season and the Raiders haven't shown interest in extending him. They also already drafted the player they seemed to be hoping would take his place in Jack Bech.

Bech hasn't gotten very much playing time as a rookie, but that could be fixed by trading the veteran in front of him.

Maybe the Raiders are still clinging on to hope that they'll eventually turn into the team they expected to be when they traded for Geno Smith. Even if that is the case, it's not a good enough reason to hold onto a player on an expiring deal who isn't producing and is getting interest from other teams.

The Raiders need to get what they can for Meyers before he leaves for free during the offseason and open up some more playing time for the young receivers on their roster.

Otherwise they're going to regret not getting a deal done if the trade deadline passes and keeping Meyers doesn't help them get over the hump.
