Report: Rob Gronkowski, Titans have mutual interest

We’re used to Rob Gronkowski catching footballs, but this time around, he could be throwing us a curveball.

Chad Withrow of Outkick reported on Saturday that there is serious mutual interest between Gronkowski and an unexpected NFL team: the Tennessee Titans. Withrow notes that the Titans will be an option for the veteran tight end if he plays in 2022.

On paper, the Titans pose an odd fit for Gronkowski. They are a run-heavy offense with top rusher Derrick Henry and have the solid but unspectacular Ryan Tannehill as their starting quarterback.

Still, Tennessee won the AFC South last year before falling in the divisional playoff round to the Cincinnati Bengals, so there is some upside to contend next year. The team is also led by head coach Mike Vrabel, who is a disciple of Gronkowski’s old New England coach, Bill Belichick. Meanwhile, tight ends Anthony Firkser, Geoff Swaim and MyCole Pruitt left a lot to be desired for the Titans last season.

The future of the 32-year-old Gronkowski remains up in the air after Tom Brady retired earlier this offseason. Gronkowski was recently linked to a team that he has at least some ties to in the Buffalo Bills, but a surprise move to the Titans would definitely catch many off-guard.
