Report: Saints plan to interview former Dolphins HC Brian Flores

When Brian Flores was fired from his post as the Miami Dolphins head coach earlier this month, it was expected that the 40-year-old would be a hot commodity among the numerous NFL franchises looking for a new leader. It looks like the latest club potentially interested in bringing in Flores is the New Orleans Saints.

The Saints are in the market for a new commander after longtime head man Sean Payton announced his retirement on Tuesday. Other candidates who have either interviewed or been contacted in reference to the New Orleans lead gig have included Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn, Saints defensive coordinator Dennis Allen and Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich, among others.

Flores began his NFL coaching career under New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick, working for the future Hall of Famer from 2004 to 2018. Flores served as New England's scouting assistant for two seasons, pro scout in 2006 and 2007 and special teams assistant in 2008 and 2009.

The Brooklyn, N.Y., native was an offensive assistant/special teams coach in 2010 and defensive assistant in 2011, before heading the safeties group from 2012 to 2015. Flores wrapped up his time with the Patriots as the team's linebackers coach from 2016 to 2018.

Flores was Miami's head coach from 2019 to 2021, posting a 24-25 record.
