The Pittsburgh Steelers reportedly have Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr. on their radar.
Thomas earned Pro Bowl honors as a rookie, hauling in 87 passes for 1,282 yards and 10 touchdowns. Although the Jaguars went 13-4 this past season, the former LSU star wasn't nearly as productive. He had just 48 catches for 707 yards and two touchdowns. Believe it or not, there were rumblings that he could be moved mid-season.
According to Andrew Fillipponi of 93.7 The Fan, the Steelers showed interest in Thomas prior to last year's trade deadline. With the new league year just around the corner, they'e apparently approached the Jaguars yet again about a potential deal.
"The Steelers have been in talks with the Jaguars about WR Brian Thomas Jr. Also the two teams discussed a deal at last year’s trade deadline," Fillipponi said. "Thomas is going into his 3rd year. And saw a big drop off in his production last year."
On paper, Thomas would form an intriguing wide receiver duo with D.K. Metcalf.
ESPN's Dan Graziano is reporting that Jacksonville hasn't given any indication that Thomas is available in a trade. However, teams are monitoring the former first-round pick's availability.
"There has been no indication that trading Thomas is something the Jaguars are planning, but there are teams monitoring the situation in case the hypertalented LSU product has fallen far enough down the Jacksonville depth chart that the front office would consider a move," Graziano wrote.
If the Jaguars are going to entertain trade offers for Thomas, they'll need to receive something appealing in return. We'll see if the Steelers are willing to swing big for the talented wideout.
