The Pittsburgh Steelers have continued to stay busy throughout the offseason, making big moves that have changed the roster. Despite all the changes that have already occurred, it appears the Steelers might not be finished just yet.

With the regular season still in the distance, there’s growing speculation that more significant moves could stipen. The current roster looks completely different from last year’s team, and as a result, everyone is weighing in with their thoughts on how these changes will impact the team in the future, and which moves should still be made.

One of the moves that is currently generating a lot of speculation is the possibility of the Steelers addressing the void in their receiving corps. After trading away George Pickens earlier this offseason, a clear void remains at the wide receiver position.

Several potential options have been discussed, but the latest name to be talked about is former division rival Tyler Boyd. Steelers insider Mark Kaboly recently appeared on 93.7 The Fan to talk about the team's offseason, and when the topic of Boyd came up, he shared something interesting.

"The Steelers did offer him," Kaboly said.

This is big news, even though Kaboly admitted he’s unsure of the full extent of the situation. He went on to explain what he believes is the main reason why Boyd has not signed a deal, not just with the Steelers, but with any team at all.

"What I'm under the belief is, money is not there for him to make a decision," Kaboly shared. "Not only with the Steelers, but across the league."

It’s important to note that no official details were shared, so the exact numbers are unknown. Boyd isn’t the only free agent wide receiver still on the market; in fact, some might argue he’s not even the top option available right now. That makes the financial aspect of this potential acquisition even more interesting.

Despite the competition around the league, there has been a noticeable link between Boyd and the Steelers. Recent comments have suggested that Boyd has a genuine interest in joining the team, especially since Pittsburgh is his hometown. That personal connection could play a big role in any potential deal, making the situation even more interesting to watch as the offseason continues.

The search for a solid WR2 is not a new topic for the Steelers. For several years now, fans have been hoping for the addition of another strong person in the receiving corps to create a dynamic and reliable duo. With Pickens no longer on the roster, that need has changed to a complement to DK Metcalf, a veteran powerhouse known for his speed and strength. Finding the right receiver to pair with him could elevate the entire offense and add a much-needed layer of depth to the roster.

Boyd certainly brings a wealth of experience to whatever team he ends up signing with. He first entered the NFL in 2016 when he was drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals, an AFC North division rival. Most recently, he signed with the Tennessee Titans for the 2024 season as a free agent. However, after completing his one-year contract there, Boyd has once again entered free agency.

There’s been plenty of speculation about who the Steelers might sign next, especially when it comes to strengthening their receiving corps. Recently, however, Steelers wide receivers coach Zach Azzanni shared that Calvin Austin III is currently the team’s WR2. Despite this announcement, rumors about a potential new addition haven’t stopped, even though the team may choose to start the season without making any more signings. What the Steelers ultimately do will be seen eventually, but they have plenty of time left to make any decisions.
