REPORT: Stephen Ross Not Looking to Move on from Mike McDaniel Anytime Soon
NFL Insider Jordan Schultz has a report today discussing a lot of the problems with the Miami Dolphins this season. The key tidbit of his report, though, is that Miami Dolphins owner Stephen Ross is not looking to move on from Mike McDaniel at this time.
So, if you’re waiting for a change at head coach and an announcement of a firing, you may be waiting a while for something that isn’t coming soon or not coming at all.
Ross signed McDaniel to a contract extension last August to keep him as the Dolphins’ head coach through the 2028 season. It would be a sudden turn of events to now fire McDaniel and eat a lot of money that would have to be paid out.
The 42-year-old McDaniel is 29-30 as the Dolphins’ head coach.
While Schultz’s report states Ross isn’t ready to move on from McDaniel at this time, there have been other reports from Ian Rapoport and Adam Schefter saying that if the Dolphins continue to lose and if fans stop showing up to games at Hard Rock Stadium, the process of firing McDaniel could change his mind on firing McDaniel.

Another interesting aspect of Schultz’s report is that some players on the Dolphins roster feel the locker room and the organization as a whole are not aligned and lack cohesion.
It’s alarming that players on the Dolphins roster feel comfortable enough to share that kind of information with a member of the media.
It also goes to show how fractured the Dolphins locker room is, and how nobody has faith in the head coach or the quarterback at this time, as well as having no faith in the owner or general manager.
I believe a loss to the Cleveland Browns on Sunday may get the ball rolling in the process of getting Mike McDaniel fired, but honestly, it doesn’t matter if McDaniel is fired next week, in November, in December, or after Week 18. As long as he is removed as the Miami Dolphins head coach eventually, I think Dolphins fans will have more hope heading into the 2026 season.
