The Cincinnati Bengals have been viewed as potential sellers heading into Tuesday's NFL trade deadline, but there is plenty of reason to be skeptical that they are willing to part with one of their most coveted players.
Trey Hendrickson was the subject of trade talk throughout most of the offseason. The Bengals finally agreed to a new one-year, $30M contract with him prior to Week 1, but the rumors have resurfaced with the Bengals 3-6 heading into the deadline. Joe Burrow has been out with a foot injury and will not return until December at the earliest, so Cincinnati's chances of contending for a postseason spot appear slim.
But are the Bengals actually open to dealing Hendrickson? Their asking price suggests there is no sense of urgency, at the very least.
On Monday, Dianna Russini of The Athletic reported that the Bengals have told teams they want at least a first-round draft pick in any potential trade for Hendrickson. Teams are hopeful that Cincinnati will lower the asking price ahead of Tuesday's 4 p.m. ET deadline, which likely means the price is too high.

Teams calling the Bengals inquiring about a trade are hopeful that Cincinnati will lower its asking price for a deal to get done between now and 4 p.m. ET tomorrow, sources say. https://t.co/AnmcNNRYeA
That is consistent with the reports that Cincinnati has turned away teams that have expressed interest in Hendrickson. It is possible that the Bengals are only willing to trade the star pass-rusher if they are blown away by an offer.
While he has battled some minor injuries this season, Hendrickson has continued to make life difficult on opposing quarterbacks. The 30-year-old has four sacks through seven games and is on pace for yet another monster year.
Hendrickson had 17.5 sacks in each of the 2023 and 2024 seasons. That was the most sacks in the NFL across that span. He has the ability to be a massive difference-maker for a contending team, but he is only signed through the end of the season. Teams will almost certainly be hesitant about giving up a first-round pick for a player who is on the wrong side of 30 and could wind up being a half-season rental.
