Report: Teams looking to trade up in NFL Draft for surprising player

No NFL teams have completed a trade involving a first-round pick in the days or weeks leading up to the NFL Draft, which is practically unheard of. There is still time for that to change, and you may be surprised to hear of one player who could inspire such a move.

ESPN’s Peter Schrager reported on "Get Up" Tuesday morning that both the Cleveland Browns and New York Giants have been fielding calls about their first-round picks. The Browns have the No. 2 pick and the Giants have No. 3.

According to Schrager, teams that pick later in the first round are interested in potentially moving up for Travis Hunter, Abdul Carter and Ashton Jeanty.

"To move up to the 2 or the 3 spot it would be for Abdul Carter, Travis Hunter or the running back Ashton Jeanty, who everyone expects to go somewhere in that 5-8 range. There have been teams making calls and those teams are not immediately slamming down the phone.

"Everyone assumes it’s gonna be chalk, that this is gonna go Cam Ward, it’s gonna go Travis Hunter, it’s gonna go Abdul Carter — not so fast. I think the 2 spot gets very interesting if the Browns are listening to a 'Godfather' deal for them to trade back and for someone to trade up into the top three."

Carter and Hunter are viewed by many as generational prospects. It is not a surprise to hear that teams are inquiring about what it would take to move up the board for them. What would shake things up is if a team traded up that high for Jeanty.

Jeanty is by far the best running back in the draft. He rushed for an otherworldly 2,601 yards and 29 touchdowns at Boise State last season. Jeanty finished second in the Heisman Trophy voting.

Saquon Barkley showed last season that having an elite running back can still be valuable for an NFL team. Jeanty has already boldly predicted that he will have the same impact for whichever team drafts him.

If teams are considering a move into the top five for Jeanty, they must believe him.
