The Pittsburgh Steelers might have competition for Aaron Rodgers this offseason.
Rodgers proved this past season that h's still capable of playing at a high level, completing 65.7% of his passes for 3,322 yards with 24 touchdowns and seven interceptions. Steelers head coach Mike McCarthy has already made it known that he'd love to have Rodgers under center for the 2026 season.
"I mean, I don’t see why you wouldn’t [want Rodgers back]," McCarthy told reporters. "When guys are at that stage in their career, they need to take a step away and decompress. This game is so emotional, so that time away is important."
If the Steelers are unable to work out a deal with Rodgers, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler mentioned the Minnesota Vikings as a potential option for him.
The Vikings aren't exactly sold on J.J. McCarthy at the moment. He completed just 57.6% of his passes this season for 1,632 yards with 11 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.
“Last year, [Minnesota] looked at Rodgers,” Fowler said, via On3. “There were some people in the building that wanted Aaron Rodgers last year. He wanted Minnesota. The GM, who is now gone, they have to fill that spot. But, Kevin O’Connell, the head coach, has a lot of influence over there. If they strike out with some other options and strictly need a bridge and they develop JJ [McCarthy], do you go with Rodgers?”
Earlier this month, ESPN reporter Kevin Seifert said the Vikings are expected to "take a big swing" for a quarterback.
“In the big picture, McCarthy is a talented player who just turned 23 and has a total of 10 NFL starts. Few NFL teams would give up on a quarterback with that profile, and many team builders are particularly enamored with optimizing a quarterback’s rookie contract. Adofo-Mensah was one of them, but his departure is a reminder of the range of outcomes that approach can lead to,” Seifert said. “If anything, these events increase the chances that the Vikings will take a big swing at finding a veteran quarterback who could start in 2026. The only thing more damaging than making the mistakes the Vikings made last season would be to repeat them this year.”
Rodgers would give the Vikings an immediate upgrade at the quarterback position who's capable of getting the best out of Jordan Addison, Aaron Jones, Justin Jefferson and the rest of their playmakers. It'd also be quite fun to watch the four-time MVP operate in O'Connell's system.
