Report: Why The New York Jets Convinced A Top Wide Receiver To Sign In Free Agency

A top wide receiver signed with the New York Jets

The New York Jets have come out with fury in the offseason, trying to build a Super Bowl contender for the 2023 season. The Jets are finalizing a deal to receive Aaron Rodgers from the Green Bay Packers in a trade. The Jets have added to their wide receiver room in anticipation of landing Rodgers. They’re still trying to add more. Former Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Mecole Hardman was one of their major signings for the offense in free agency.

A new report suggests why Hardman wanted to sign with the Jets. According to Rich Cimini with ESPN, Hardman was told by the Jets he’d have an expanded role with the team in their offense:

“Former Kansas City Chiefs receiver Mecole Hardman signed with the Jets, in part, because they promised he’d be able to expand his route tree in their offense. In Kansas City, he was used at the line of scrimmage (jet sweeps, bubble screens, etc.) and on vertical routes, with not much in between. The Jets believe he has untapped ability on intermediate routes.”

Hardman, who caught passes from Patrick Mahomes in his previous seasons, will have another chance to show off his skillset with one of the best quarterbacks of all time in Rodgers in 2023.
