Reporter believes 49ers aren't worried about Brock Purdy's camp performance

The performance of quarterback Brock Purdy has wavered since the 49ers opened training camp. Nonetheless, the organization doesn't view it as a red flag.

"I saw some people the first couple of days, saying Brock Purdy didn't look particularly sharp," ESPN's Adam Schefter said Wednesday on "The Pat McAfee Show." "I called up to a couple of people on the 49ers, and they're like, what are they talking about? He looked good. They don't know what they're watching."

Per The Atheltic's David Lombardi, Purdy went 29-for-47 (62%), threw three TDs and two interceptions through the first six days of camp. Although the picks raise some eyebrows, the 23-year-old is the only QB exclusively taking first-team reps against the Niners vaunted defense. Last season, San Francisco allowed the fewest points in the NFL.

Purdy suffered a UCL tear in his right elbow in an NFC Championship game loss against the Eagles and underwent surgery on March 10. He didn't throw during OTAs and mini-camp. Consequently, it will take time for the second-year QB to regain his rhythm.

"There's some rust I have to knock off," Purdy recently said of his return to the field, via Cam Inman of The Mercury News.

Purdy's struggles could foreshadow a sophomore slump, but given his solid rookie season, that seems unlikely. He assumed the starting role after Jimmy Garoppolo suffered a broken foot against Miami in Week 13 last season.

Then, he won seven-straight games, including postseason victories over Seattle and Dallas. Plus, he logged a 65.6 QBR in nine games, well-above the league average.

Purdy's stock remains high, so the early training-camp hiccups aren't a massive concern.
