The Indianapolis Colts are proving everybody wrong in 2025, including those who suggested starting Daniel Jones was a tremendous mistake.
Two weeks into the 2025 season, the Indianapolis Colts are 2-0, and dominating on the field. Very few saw that coming, and the resurgence of Daniel Jones, now nicknamed ‘Indiana Jones’ by Colts fans, is taking the league by storm.
Daniel Jones is just a few months removed from being benched by the New York Giants and listed as QB4 on their depth chart.
He had his struggles in New York, but played behind a horrible offensive line for the entirety of his career and quickly found himself on the wrong side of the fan base.
Jones was under immense pressure the day he was drafted. Fans said it was a reach; they never believed in him, and that showed every time he made a mistake on the field.
Before he was cut, the Giants had Daniel Jones playing scout team safety. He requested his release and was granted it days later.
Many still believed he had what it takes, and he got a chance to prove that with his one-year, $14 million deal in Indianapolis.

Now, the quarterback is thriving with the Indianapolis Colts, playing behind a competent offensive line under Shane Steichen’s coaching. Steichen has shown a lot of faith in Jones, and Rich Eisen believes they’ve made the right decision.
“You have a coach that made the right decision, you have an ownership group that let the coach make the right decision. I understand why Colts fans wanted Anthony Richardson to get the gig because they drafted him so high, and they thought so highly of him.”
Eisen continued: “Here comes Daniel Jones, and he gets the gig, meaning Anthony Richardson, ain’t it. Or at least he’s not it yet. I’ll tell you what, the way this guy, Daniel Jones, is playing, over the first two weeks, you are not seeing Anthony Richardson again. If he keeps playing this way, he is done as a Colt.”
This was supposed to be a crucial year for Anthony Richardson, who is in the third year of his four-year deal with the Colts. The decision on his fifth-year option is looming, and if he isn’t on the field, many would be surprised to see the Colts pick that up.
On the flip side, Daniel Jones is currently playing his way into a second mega-deal, having only signed a one-year contract during the offseason.
Jones spent a short period with Kevin O’Connell and the Minnesota Vikings last season, and now appears reborn under the coaching of Shane Steichen.

If he keeps this up, the Colts have their solution at quarterback, and Daniel Jones could make $100 million or more at the end of the year.
What we are seeing now is the exact scenario that played out last year with Sam Darnold and the Vikings. He surged to the best season of his career, and then cashed in with a $100.5 million deal with the Seattle Seahawks in free agency.
Jones could do the same in Indy, and there’s no shot Shane Steichen is letting him go to another team based on his current performance.
