Many players around the NFL have been very supportive and happy for Cam Newton after hearing about his one-year deal with the New England Patriots, but one player is appalled by the contract that's worth up to $7.5 million.
San Francisco 49ers star Richard Sherman ripped Newton's new deal with the Patriots, and believes the 31-year-old deserved more money on the open market.
How many former League MVPs have had to sign for the min? (Asking for a friend.) just ridiculous. A transcendent talent and less talented QBs are getting 15/16m a year. Disgusting https://t.co/eZycGL8qkZ

Sherman, maybe, has a good point about the low price tag for the former MVP, but he failed to recognize why Newton may have gotten such an inexpensive deal.
The Carolina Panthers released Newton in March after committing to Teddy Bridgewater because the three-time Pro Bowler hasn't been fully healthy or good in almost two years. His foot and shoulder injuries have become a cause for concern and teams have questioned whether or not he has enough gas left in the tank.
Another reason Newton's deal was so low in price is because there aren't many starting positions left in the league. With New England seemingly not so sure about Jarrett Stidham's capabilities, after a long waiting period the Patriots pounced on the opportunity to sign Newton as his price tag dropped.
The Patriots quarterbacks now consist of Newton, Stidham, Brian Hoyer, J'Mar Smith and Brian Lewerke. When it comes down to it, Newton and Stidham likely will be QB's 1 and 2 with Hoyer as No. 3 in case either ends up injured.
New England wasn't expected to win the AFC East title this coming season, but with Newton on the roster it becomes possible.
