Richard Sherman is far from out of the woods when it comes to his 2024 arrest.

The retired former All-Pro cornerback Sherman has formally been charged with DUI this week in connection with his Feb. 2024 arrest in Renton, Wash., Brady Henderson of ESPN reported on Wednesday. The charge against Sherman is a gross misdemeanor (which includes an enhancement for refusing to submit to a breath test) and was filed one day after the King’s County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office (KCPAO) received the blood test results taken from the night of the arrest.

Sherman’s blood alcohol level was measured at 0.11 (above Washington’s legal limit of 0.08). Henderson notes that it is not uncommon, per the KCPAO, for blood-test results to take months to come back from the lab due to capacity and the high volume of tests.

Now 37 years old, Sherman was pulled over by officers on I-405 in Renton after they observed him doing 79 mph in a 60-mph zone. Police reported that Sherman had bloodshot, watery eyes and also had “an odor of intoxicants” on him. When asked if he had been drinking, Sherman reportedly responded that he had two margaritas (read the full details here).

Sherman, a five-time Pro Bowler as well as a Super Bowl champion with the Seattle Seahawks, last played in an NFL game during the 2021 season. He has since transitioned into a career as an analyst and is now providing pregame and postgame coverage for Amazon’s “Thursday Night Football.”

Prior to his 2024 arrest, Sherman was arrested in 2021 as well on suspicion of burglary domestic violence (eventually agreeing to a plea deal to settle that case). Sherman was also involved in a scary incident earlier this year in which armed robbers broke into his Seattle-area home.
