Richard Sherman: Deshaun Watson should go to Jets as quickly as possible

Like many, Richard Sherman believes Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson should run far from Houston and never look back.

The San Francisco 49ers cornerback, who will hit free agency this offseason, believes Watson should request a trade to the New York Jets, who recently hired former 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh as their next head coach.

"If I was Deshaun, I'd get out of there as quickly as possible," Sherman said on "The Cris Collinsworth Podcast," according to Justin Tasch of the New York Post. "I'd head to New York.

"It would be the most beautiful (match). Decent offensive line. They'd have to find some threats, they'd have to find some offensive weapons, but I think there would be a lot more people excited to be there. ... I'd be out of there on the first thing smokin'."

Watson will continue to be included in trade rumors this offseason after expressing frustration with how Texans owner Cal McNair is running things. McNair promised to take Watson's opinions into account in the franchise's general manager and head-coaching search, but he hasn't done so.

The 25-year-old is reportedly "furious" with the direction the Texans are headed and "just wants out" of Houston.

It would be a mistake for the Texans to trade Watson, but they might not have a choice if the Clemson product is unhappy. The Jets currently hold the second-overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft and could offer Houston that pick plus more in exchange for Watson.
