Richard Sherman is 'impressed with the white QBs' fighting racism

In the wake of George Floyd's death, many athletes are condemning police brutality and racism in various ways. Many of those athletes play in the NFL, and San Francisco 49ers cornerback Richard Sherman is very pleased with how a certain group of players has handled the matter.

“I’m impressed with the white QBs speaking up because those are voices that carry different weight than the black voices for some people,” Sherman told Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated. “Which means the people who refuse to listen to a black athlete’s perspective will hear the same thing said from a white athlete, but receive the message much differently. So it’s awesome that more people are speaking out, because in sports, you really have a love and appreciation for your fellow man, regardless of race.

“And I think that’s what makes sports and teams so special, because a lot of the stereotypes are torn down. You really get to know one another, not judge based off nonsense.

"Carson Wentz, Joe Burrow, Ryan Tannehill and Derek Carr are only a few of the white quarterbacks in the NFL who have spoken up about racial injustice since Floyd's death, and even college QB's like Clemon's Trevor Lawrence are standing up for what is right."

These actions come after Floyd, an African American man, died last week while being violently apprehended by former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin.

The 46-year-old was pinned to the ground by Chauvin, who then proceeded to kneel on his neck and prevent him from breathing. Floyd pleaded for his life and even told officer Chauvin he couldn't breathe, but Chauvin refused to move off his neck.

Floyd was later pronounced dead at the hospital, and Chauvin was arrested Friday on charges of third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter.

Sherman, 32, has spent nine years in the NFL between the Seattle Seahawks and 49ers. He is a five-time Pro Bowler, three-time All-Pro and a Super Bowl champion.
