Five-time Pro Bowl cornerback Richard Sherman was an absent free agent throughout September before he put pen to paper on a contract with the reigning Super Bowl champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers earlier this week.
There's now some information about that agreement.
Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk reported early Friday evening that Sherman is set to earn a prorated $1.2 million salary, or $1 million for the rest of the campaign. $500,000 of that cash is guaranteed to the veteran, and he can also add up to $125,000 in per-game roster bonuses.
"I went with the best offer I had, the best opportunity to go out there and put some great tape on, to lead another group," the 33-year-old said earlier this week. "I feel comfortable and confident in my abilities to go out there and execute and help that team win."
Interestingly, Sherman stated Wednesday he required "at least a week of practice to really hone things in, to play at the level that I’m capable of," and head coach Bruce Arians hinted at that time he'd activate the new acquisition only in case of a secondary emergency. On Friday, however, Arians confirmed Sherman will be active for Sunday's matchup at the New England Patriots, meaning the cornerback can start collecting some of that roster bonus money.
It's still unclear if Sherman will face a potential suspension via the NFL's personal conduct policy regarding his disturbing July arrest. For now, however, he and his teammates are concentrating on a trip to Gillette Stadium.
