Included in the blockbuster report Monday morning that former Golden State Warriors general manager Bob Myers has been hired to lead the Washington Commanders' search for a new director of football operations and head coach is the the name of former Minnesota Vikings general manager Rick Spielman, who has also been brought in as part of the search group.

Spielman, out of the NFL since the Vikings made sweeping changes to its front office and coaching staff following the 2021 season, will aid Myers as the Commanders make significant foundational changes after a four-win season that sets them up for the No. 2 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.

According to ESPN's Josina Anderson, Myers and Spielman have been tasked with "looking for a coach that can create a lasting winning culture similar to the ‘Patriots, Ravens & Chiefs.’"

Both Myers and Spielman have been hired in temporary roles, per Dianna Russini of The Athletic.

Spielman was the GM in Minnesota from 2012 to 2021 and after five years as the Vikings' vice president of player personnel. The only coaching change he made during his time in Minnesota was hiring Mike Zimmer to replace Leslie Frazier ahead of the 2014 season.

Zimmer and Spielman worked together until both were fired after the 2021 season.
