Rival coach has extremely harsh take on Titans

One coach from a rival AFC team had some harsh words for the Tennessee Titans.

The 1-5 Titans are in flux after the team fired second-year head coach Brian Callahan on Monday. The decision came after Tennessee lost to the Las Vegas Raiders in a 20-10 contest that was not as close as the score indicated. Callahan, who may have sensed what was coming, threw Titans rookie quarterback Cam Ward under the bus following the defeat.

The Titans’ overall dysfunction wasn’t just evident from the inside. A coach from the Raiders reportedly made quite an insulting statement about Tennessee after Sunday’s game.

“That might be the worst team I’ve seen in the last 25 years,” one Raiders coach said, per The Athletic’s Michael Silver. “They don’t have any difference-makers other than (defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons), and the whole thing was a total mess.”

It’s quite a bold take since there have been some downright putrid teams over the past quarter-century. The 2008 Detroit Lions’ 0-16 campaign comes to mind. It’d also be tough to top the Cleveland Browns’ 1-31 run from 2016 to 2017.

The Titans aren’t even a winless team anymore, with that label solely belonging to the similarly disastrous New York Jets entering Week 7. But one could make the case that Tennessee’s lone win against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 5 shouldn’t count, given that it happened thanks to the most embarrassing play of the season.

The losses and insults have done little to shake Ward’s confidence. The Miami product sent out a warning to the rest of the NFL following Callahan’s axing.
