Rob Gronkowski honors 'best friend' Tom Brady after retirement

There are no longer any questions about the playing future of seven-time champion quarterback Tom Brady. The GOAT confirmed Tuesday morning he's riding off into the sunset of retirement following a brief period of uncertainty and speculation.

The same can't yet be said for fun-loving tight end Rob Gronkowski, who may or may not return for the 2022 NFL season.

Gronkowski famously earned three Super Bowl rings alongside Brady during their time with the New England Patriots but then spent the 2019 campaign away from the game in retirement. After Brady left New England to sign with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2020, however, Gronkowski joined him to help guide the Bucs to a Super Bowl win over the Kansas City Chiefs last February.

Gronkowski hasn't publicly unveiled his plans now that Brady has retired, but the 32-year-old did share an entertaining video tribute to his legendary buddy that's set to Queen's "You're My Best Friend" and includes a nice caption.

Gronk also honored Brady via Twitter.

Coming off the playoff loss to the Los Angeles Rams last month, Gronkowski teased he could return to the Buccaneers for at least one more season even if Brady was no longer on the roster.

"I’ll never throw anything off the board," he said at that time.

However, Gronkowski told TMZ Sports last week he would retire if forced "to decide right now, right this second."

He added: "I just want to heal completely, see where my thoughts are from there. Just let things settle down — got to just heal a little bit. Fix all the bumps and bruises."

We can't help but think of seeing Brady and Gronkowski together again down the road as part of the same Hall of Fame class.
