Robert Griffin III: 'I want to be a starter again'

Robert Griffin III doesn't want to be riding the bench for the entirety of his NFL career, and he'd like to make his way back to QB1. That may be difficult while he's backing up Lamar Jackson in Baltimore, but he still believes he'll have the opportunity to do so somewhere else.

"I want to be a starter again," Griffin said earlier this week on the "Matt Mosley Show." "I'm 30 years old. Quarterbacks are playing into their 40s now. I've got a lot of time left to still go achieve all the dreams and all the goals I set for myself."

"Who knows? Maybe I'll be in Baltimore for the foreseeable future playing the role I am now, but getting compensated more for it," he continued. "Or I'll be able to go out and compete to be a starter again somewhere in the league."

Griffin has been a backup quarterback since 2018 and has seen limited time on the field behind Jackson. He did appear in a few games last season, including a start during Week 17, but it was because the Ravens were either ahead by a lot or their starters were resting.

The 30-year-old had a lot of hype surrounding him when the Washington Redskins drafted him second overall in 2012, but his production declined following knee surgery that same year. He also was named Rookie of the Year in 2012, so there's no reason why he can't potentially be a starter once again. 

Griffin hasn't started more than a single game since 2016 when he went 1-4 with the Cleveland Browns and threw just two touchdowns to three interceptions. 

While it'll be difficult for him to win a starting job anywhere in the NFL in the future, nothing is impossible at this point in his career.
