New York Jets owner Woody Johnson didn't want to wait and see if Robert Saleh would finally be able to get his team over the hump.
The Jets were 4-13 in year one and 7-10 in year two. That's decent progress for a new head coach trying to turn something around. New York went 7-10 again in 2023, but that was because the four-time MVP quarterback they traded for to help them win a Super Bowl, Aaron Rodgers, was hurt just three plays into the season.
This was supposed to be the season it all came together for the Jets, with Rodgers back in the fray, a star wideout in Garrett Wilson and a Super Bowl-worthy defense.
Instead, the Jets are 2-3, and Johnson has seen enough. Saleh didn't even get a chance to tell his team goodbye before getting the axe from ownership, and the internet has responded to his firing in ways only it can.
The memes have been flying.
