Robert Saleh gives brutally honest assessment of Jets offense

Robert Saleh held nothing back when giving his opinion on how the New York Jets performed on offense against New England on Sunday.

"We played like dog-[expletive]," said Saleh, comparing the team's performance to dog excrement.

There certainly are flies swarming around the Jets' offense after the unit somehow was even more of a disaster than it was the last time it faced the Patriots. New York (6-4) finished the game with 103 yards of offense, with seven coming after halftime.

The abysmal performance means questions will continue to mount over whether QB Zach Wilson can pilot this team to a playoff bid or if he's the one ultimately responsible for them being last in the AFC East.

Wilson was 9-22 for 77 yards on Sunday. He threw three interceptions in the team's previous game against New England on Oct. 30.

In seven games this season, Wilson is 105-of-189 (55.6 percent) for 1,279 yards and four touchdowns with five interceptions.

The Jets' defense held New England (6-4) to 297 yards and 10 points. The Patriots won on a touchdown on a punt return with five seconds remaining.

The defense performed at a level worthy of a playoff appearance. The offense was carried out in a way that would get them laughed off a Pop Warner field.

Saleh doubled down on his struggling QB after the game, saying Wilson is the team's starter and they need to figure out a way to make him better. "That's the furthest thing from my mind," said Saleh when asked about making a change.

This doesn't seem like the best time to continue an experiment that's produced unsatisfactory results thus far. Joe Flacco and Mike White aren't the most exciting replacements, but with the way the offense is operating with Wilson, it isn't ridiculous to think they could only go up from here.

Then again, there are only so many ways to dress up what the Jets' offense looks like.
