Rome Odunze details how hype around Caleb Williams impacts him
? Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

The hype around Caleb Williams is obvious, but the Chicago Bears had a second top-ten pick in the 2024 NFL Draft in former Washington Huskies pass catcher Rome Odunze.

Perhaps it’s the perfect situation for Odunze, as it alleviates some of the pressure of being a top pick for him entering his rookie season. That’s the theory many have championed, but Odunze himself isn’t being passive, as he detailed which ways the hype around Williams has rubbed off on him.

“I wouldn’t say easier,” Odunze responded, asked if the hype around Williams makes it easier for him to fit in during his transition to the NFL. “I think we’re both coming in as rookies, trying to do our best to get involved with the culture with this organization, and be the best team that we can possibly be. I think he’s doing that tremendously, and I think I’m trying my best at it, as well.

“So it’s something that takes time, and takes energy from both parties, to be able to get done, but I couldn’t say one or the other. I think we’re both just trying our best, for sure.”

Alas, it seems as if coming into the league together has been a huge boon for Odunze and Williams. They can grow together as teammates, and really cultivate their chemistry as a quarterback-wide receiver duo for the Bears.

Chicago is hoping Rome Odunze is Caleb Williams’ top target for many years to come. We’ll see if that’s the case, but the duo have a shot to bring offense back to the Bears in 2024.

Caleb Williams gives his first impressions of Rome Odunze as a receiver

Moreover, Caleb Williams was drafted first overall by the Chicago Bears, and immediately gifted a top wide receiver in former Washington Huskies pass catcher Rome Odunze.

The Bears pivoted and drafted Odunze in the top ten after picking Williams No. 1, setting the stage for a dynamic duo that can begin their careers together in Chicago. The Bears have been starved for offense, so it’s an incredible shot in the arm, and something the franchise can build off of for years to come.

Williams and Odunze are already getting acquainted, and it’s evident the new franchise quarterback is excited about throwing to the former Huskies wide receiver all season long.

“Threw a couple of times now. Been able to you know, throw the ball to Rome. You obviously see why he had what, 1,500-plus, and a bunch of catches,” Williams told the media about his new wide receiver. “So he’s explosive for his side, explosive route runner, things like that. He’s also really smooth, in and out of routes and in transition.

“So working with him, it’s been great. It’s been awesome. I’m excited for what’s next.”

Some quarterbacks have to wait their whole careers to be gifted a first round wide receiver. Williams had to wait about an hour before Chicago turned in their card. The Bears are certainly giving their star quarterback all he needs to start his NFL career on the right foot in 2024.
