Rookie Lineman Got Expanded Opportunity Vs Chiefs
USA TODAY Sports

The Los Angeles Chargers gave it their best shot in their final game of the 2023 season against their division rivals, the Kansas City Chiefs. No touchdown was scored in the Week 18 contest for the Bolts, but they kept it competitive, and it's all you could ask for with a depleted team.

Many young players got the opportunity to shine last week, including LA's rookie offensive lineman Jordan McFadden. McFadden shined in his role as he came in for left guard Zion Johnson. The rookie guard played 12 games this past season and started in two games, including Week 18.

Although the result didn't go in their favor, McFadden told Chargers senior writer Eric Smtih that he's proud of the other guys' effort despite having nothing to play for.

"I think it's a testament to the players we have," McFadden said. "Guys prepare each week as if they're starting because you never know when your time will come.

"It just speaks to the players we got, how much they care and want to be successful when given the opportunity," McFadden added.

McFadden was drafted by LA in the fifth round of the 2023 NFL Draft with the 156 overall pick.

For the entirety of the season, Jordan played in 163 offensive snaps, committed zero penalties, and allowed one sack. He also only allowed two hits and five total pressures. According to PFF, he received an overall grade of 52, a pass block grade of 54, and a run block grade of 49.5.

He did just fine in a limited role and is hoping this could propel him to a more prominent role in 2024.

"Definitely a huge confidence booster knowing that you can do it," McFadden said. "That's big and just to get the experience, there's nothing like actually doing it out there and doing it yourself. Just to get the experience, see different things, it's definitely big."

We'll see if McFadden can stand out next season and possibly become a starter or a big part of the line in year two.
