Will Howard's onboarding process with the Pittsburgh Steelers is off to a perfect start.
A match made in football heaven, the Steelers were thrilled to draft Howard in the sixth round of last month's draft, while he wanted to go to Pittsburgh all along.
As it turns out, Howard to Pittsburgh might have been years in the making...
“The culture, it just fits who I am as a person and who I am as a player," said Howard when asked why he wanted to be a Steeler so bad. "It's close to home, I got a lot of connections to Pittsburgh. Coach Mike Tomlin, I wanted to play for him. Arthur and coach Arth. I knew coach Arth, he recruited me at Akron, and one of his players from John Carroll University coached me at Ohio State last year, so I have a lot of connections with him. It's just, everything kind of fell into place. As the draft went on, you never know where you're gonna end up, but you keep a little spot in your heart for where you really wanna go, and I had a little soft spot for Pittsburgh...
"...I know on that like 'Hey Rookie' show they showed a clip of me begging Pittsburgh to pick me just cause it's a long three days and you never know what's gonna happen, but I'm blessed man. I could not be in a better place, and Pittsburgh is gonna get my all every single day.”
While Will Howard may have just won a national championship with the Ohio State Buckeyes, his hunger for football greatness is far from satiated. Howard generated headlines last week after he was already asking for the Steelers' playbook despite the fact that rookie minicamp hadn't even started yet.
When watching him on Ben Roethlisberger's podcast, it's clear that while he's thrilled to be a part of the Steelers, the waiting game that was hearing his name called added another chip to his shoulders, ones that already carry a lot from his recruitment and entrance into the transfer portal.
Sounds like he has the grit and determination to make it big in Pittsburgh.
