Roquan Smith is the jolt the Ravens defense needed

A new opportunity awaited Roquan Smith after getting traded by the Chicago Bears, and he stepped up to the occasion. Smith debuted for the Baltimore Ravens on "Monday Night Football" against the New Orleans Saints this week. With a new team and a new scheme for Smith to get accustomed to, he seemed like he had been a Raven for years.

Smith recorded five tackles as the defensive effort of the Ravens looked like the dominant units of the past. His new teammate, Justin Houston, put on a show, earning him AFC Defensive Player of the Week after registering 2.5 sacks and one interception in the 27-13 victory, and the newest Baltimore defender was happy to be a part of it.

"It was amazing just being out here with these guys," Smith told NFL Network's Kayla Burton after the game. "They was very supportive the entire week when I got here. No selfish guys, and being able to come out to a contending team and get the dub, it's amazing."

It was the best defensive showing for the Ravens this season. They held the Saints to 13 first downs and only 243 yards, and the Saints were unable to score a touchdown until late in the fourth quarter when the game was all but sealed.

Smith will continue to show Baltimore what he has to offer and should be even better in short order. He is still in the midst of learning the Ravens playbook, and his performance on Monday was a good start.

He now sits at 88 total tackles on the season and looks like a lock to get his fifth 100-tackle season of his career.
