Rumored NFL schedule leak has opening game for the Jets full of storylines and revenge

The NFL will release the New York Jets 2025 schedule on Wednesday night. Until then, info on games has been trickling in a little bit at a time. For example, we know that the Jets will host the Denver Broncos on Sunday October 12 in Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London as part of the NFL International series.

The leaks are coming in little by little until the official schedule release and the Jets opening game could have just as much as intrigue as any other on the schedule for Week 1.

According to a leak, the New York Jets will host the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 1 of the NFL season.

The game has a lot of storylines attached to it, but with the expected signing of Aaron Rodgers by the Steelers, it will be both starting quarterbacks facing off against their former teams.

Justin Fields, who was signed by the Jets this offseason will host the Pittsburgh Steelers, who benched Fields prior to the team’s game against the Jets last season despite having a 4-2 record at the time, in favor of Russell Wilson. Fields would ride out the remainder of the season largely on the bench and left Pittsburgh in free agency.

Meanwhile, the Jets put all of their hopes in Aaron Rodgers the last two seasons only to see him miss all of the 2023 campaign with an Achilles injury and lead the Jets to a paltry 5-12 record in 2024 despite starting every game.

There is no doubt that both quarterbacks will be looking to avenge a marriage gone bad if and when these two teams match up.

Personally, I think the NFL wasted this game by putting it in Week 1. There are going to be very few games that have intrigue for the New York Jets in 2025, but week 1 will be one of them because we will get to see Aaron Glenn as a leader and Justin Fields in a new offense. The NFL could have put this game of revenge at any point during the 2025 season and it would have been worth tuning in. Now, I fear it will get lost in opening week storylines.
