Running back Nyheim Hines hopes to play for Colts his entire career

Nyheim Hines is entering his fourth NFL season, which means he's going to play the final year of his rookie contract.

The Indianapolis Colts running back has been a role player since being drafted in 2018. Last season, he set a career-high with 862 yards from scrimmage and seven total touchdowns.

However, the Indy backfield is already loaded with Marlon Mack and Jonathan Taylor, which means Hines could be looking for a new home come 2022. The 24-year-old hopes that won't happen.

"I hope to play there my entire career, and I hope to establish a legacy where Indianapolis is always going to have that slasher, scat-back, that little fast guy who's so versatile," Hines said, according to Joel A. Erickson of the Indianapolis Star.

Hines hinted that contract discussions have not yet begun, but that's not taking away his desire to play for the Colts in the future.

"Contract talks will come when they come. Whatever happens with that happens," Hines said. "My goal is to be the best leader for this team, to be the best player for this team that I can be. I feel like last year I established myself as a leader. Maybe not as much of a vocal leader, but I'm definitely a leader on that team."

Hines was a fourth-round pick out of North Carolina State. In three full seasons with the Colts, he has 226 carries for 893 yards and seven touchdowns with 170 catches for 1,227 yards and six scores.
