Russell Wilson disputes Seahawks’ claims about trade
Quarterback Russell Wilson. Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

The Seattle Seahawks’ messaging regarding Russell Wilson never seemed to match reality in the final days of the quarterback’s time there. That remains the case even after Wilson was ultimately traded to the Denver Broncos.

On Wednesday, Wilson referred to his departure from Seattle as “definitely mutual,” running counter to what the Seahawks have said about the process.

In a statement released after the trade was made official, Seahawks owner Jody Allen said Wilson “made it clear he wanted this change.” The organization essentially tried to pass all the blame to Wilson to look blameless in the trade of their franchise quarterback.

There is no doubt Wilson was interested in a trade. When it came down to it, though, the Seahawks didn’t seem to put up much of a fight to keep him. Perhaps that was partly down to what the Broncos gave up for him, but with rumors lingering for months, it does not seem like this was strictly limited to one party.
