Russell Wilson focused on Seahawks, not offseason trade speculation

A report recently surfaced that Seattle Seahawks star quarterback Russell Wilson would be willing to accept an offseason trade to the New York Giants, Denver Broncos or New Orleans Saints, three teams that seemingly could hit figurative reset buttons regarding the sport's most important position during the winter or spring months.

According to Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk, Wilson spoke with reporters Thursday and said he's concentrating only on the task at hand as the 4-8 Seahawks prepare to play at the 2-10 Houston Texans on Sunday.

"That’s not in my head right now at all," Wilson said about the report. "I didn’t say that. I’m focused on what we’re doing here. Obviously, I love Seattle. This is a place I’ve loved every day, every moment."

Per Spotrac, Wilson is signed through the 2023 season and added he "hopes" to stay with Seattle beyond the expiration of his contract.

"Hopefully, I can play here 20 years and my career," Wilson remarked. "Will that happen? I don’t know. That’s my prayer, that’s my hope. That stuff’s in the future, that stuff’s down the road. I think my mission, my focus is only on right now."

The Giants have to make an offseason decision on the fifth-year option attached to the rookie contract of signal-caller Daniel Jones, and there's no indication either the Broncos or Saints have long-term answers at quarterback on their current rosters.

In short, prepare yourselves for weeks and maybe even months of speculation about Wilson's future after Seattle's regular-season finale on Jan. 9.
