Russell Wilson: 'I’m built for the good times and the tough times'

Star quarterback Russell Wilson remains undeterred despite a rocky start to his Denver Broncos tenure.

"And I think that, for me, I can handle it. I’m built for it," Wilson said during a Thursday press conference about experiencing several down moments over the season's first five games, according to Myles Simmons of Pro Football Talk. "I’m built for the good times and the tough times and we’re going to come on the other end of it.

"Really, how you get out of it and as a team, how we keep building in what we’re doing and where we’re going is focus on today. Nothing else matters. Today has got to be the best day we’ve had so far. That would be no matter what our record is — if we were 5-0, which we could’ve had a chance to be that potentially. And the reality is, we are where we are right now and that’s on a Thursday/Wednesday. And we’ve got to make it special."

Wilson and the Broncos are at 2-3 rather than 5-0 heading into the upcoming "Monday Night Football" game at the 3-2 Los Angeles Chargers, and Simmons notes the nine-time Pro Bowl selection who was traded to the Broncos from the Seattle Seahawks in March is "off to the worst start of his career."

Per ESPN stats, Wilson began Thursday 22nd among eligible quarterbacks with an 82.8 passer rating, 26th with a 36.5 total QBR, 28th with a completion percentage of 59.4%, and 14th with 1,254 yards through the air. He's passed for four touchdowns against three interceptions and also added 73 yards and another score on the ground on 17 carries.

Wilson, who put pen to paper on a five-year extension reportedly worth $245 million in early September, added Thursday that there's "a lot of season left." Such comments won't mean much to fans if the Broncos are 2-4 at this time next week.
