Russell Wilson Makes Free Agent Decision

Russell Wilson is officially off the market.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the New York Giants are signing Russell Wilson to a one-year deal worth up to $21 million. That puts him on track to be the starting quarterback for the 2025 season.

"ESPN Sources: The Giants and Super Bowl-winning QB Russell Wilson reached agreement today on a one-year deal worth up to $21 million, including $10.5 million guaranteed," Schefter said. "The 10-time Pro-Bowl selection had been in discussions with the Giants, Browns and Steelers, but is opting for New York, where Wilson won Super Bowl XLVIII in MetLife Stadium. Now, Wilson is returning there as the Giants’ projected starting QB."

This might seem like an odd move by the Giants, especially after signing Jameis Winston to a two-year deal.

However, ESPN's Jeremy Fowler said the G-Men were at the top of Wilson's wish list.

"Still in the mix with the Giants. He has looked at the Giants as a viable option for a while now. Despite that Winston signing, my sense is the Giants have looked at signing two free agent quarterbacks and then they can still draft one [as well]," Fowler said. "They're starting from scratch for their quarterback room."

It's unclear if the addition of Wilson takes the Giants out of the Shedeur Sanders sweepstakes.

Wilson started 11 games for the Pittsburgh Steelers last season. The Super Bowl champion completed 63.7 percent of his passes for 2,482 yards with 16 touchdowns and five interceptions.

With Wilson heading to the Giants, that clears the path for Aaron Rodgers to sign with the Steelers.
