It would take nothing short of a miracle for Russell Wilson to be back on the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2025.
A ship that sailed when it became clear that he and Arthur Smith were less than buddy-buddy, Wilson has been on the free agency trail, taking visits with other teams.
One of those teams happens to be the Cleveland Browns, who despite trading for Kenny Pickett and flirting with other veterans, are still very interested in Wilson according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler...
“From what I’m hearing, the Cleveland Browns still have interest in Russell Wilson," said Fowler. "They’re still pursuing that angle, but they have Carson Wentz as a contingency plan. There’s some mutual interest there. If Wilson falls through, Kirk Cousins would be a prime option for the Browns, I’m told, but he’s simply not available right now.”
The Steelers have all their chips in on Aaron Rodgers. That much was confirmed when key members of the Steelers brass, including Mike Tomlin, Omar Khan and Arthur Smith all skipped Michigan's Pro Day to take on a six-hour meeting with Aaron Rodgers on Friday.
And should he decide to choose anything other than the Black and Gold, the Steelers will very likely run it back with Mason Rudolph and a rookie. That leaves Russell Wilson as the odd man out, who despite being maligned by many at the end of his tenure, was throwing TDs as a Pro Bowl QB.
So if he does decide to pack it up and make the short trip to Cleveland, the Browns, and Wilson will be looking to play spoiler to the Steelers season.
Let's be clear, Russ had been adamant about coming back to the Steelers. He said multiple times that he wanted to stay and play for the Steelers despite being a free agent.
But that was before the you know what hit the fan and he lost five straight to close out the season while having less than stellar reports about he and Arthur Smith's relationship surface.
Meaning, if he can create another chip on his shoulder, add another layer of motivation, and do it all against the very team that let him walk, you better believe he will.
