Russell Wilson's contract is not giving the Broncos buyer's remorse.
"We feel really good about it. I feel like it will hold up," general manager George Paton said in a Thursday news conference, via DNVR's Zac Stevens.

"Just really wanted to get ahead of it. We didn't want a lot of distraction during the season. We feel really good about it. I feel good about that deal. I feel like it will hold up. I feel good about Russ."
The statement is surprising, because it looks like Denver overpaid for Wilson. The Broncos rushed to sign Wilson to a monster contract, extending him before he played one game. They gave Wilson a five-year extension with $161 million guaranteed, per Spotrac.
Through seven games, Wilson failed to justify the expensive contract. He's completing 58.6 percent of his passes and posting an 83.4 passer rating. Both marks are career lows and below the league average.
Also, the 2-5 Broncos don't look like a playoff team.
Even though they look like a train wreck, Paton promises they'll start chugging soon.
"We know what Russ is capable of. I know we'll get there," Paton said.

"We know what Russ is capable of. It's our job to get the best out of Russ and our entire offense. I know we'll get there. You've seen flashes with Russ...you see the arm strength, accuracy, the mobility and we all need to play better."
Although he remains optimistic, the odds say he should worry. Since 1990, 144 teams have started 2-5. Eight of those teams made the playoffs.
If Wilson can't produce this miracle, the contract could become one of the worst in franchise history.
