Russell Wilson had a forgettable 14th season in the NFL. He signed with the New York Giants in the offseason only to lose the starting quarterback role three games into the campaign. Wilson, a 10-time Pro Bowl QB, made just six appearances for New York, registering 69-of-119 completed passes (58.0%) for 831 yards and three touchdowns. These were all career-low numbers for the 37-year-old.

Wilson, however, has remained active outside the NFL throughout his tumultuous season. The Super Bowl-winning signal-caller executive produced a film entitled “Sarah’s Oil” through his Why Not You Productions company. The movie has now earned critical acclaim, and Wilson proudly shared the news on social media.

Wilson established the Why Not You Foundation in 2014 with his wife, Ciara. It is the core entity of Wilson’s off-field ventures. In 2019, the former Walter Payton Man of the Year winner established his own production company under the Why Not You umbrella.

Wilson’s executive-produced film, “Sarah’s Oil,” was released in November 2025. It tells the inspiring true story of Sarah Rector, who became one of the first Black millionaires in the United States through the oil business.

On Tuesday, Wilson shared via Instagram that “Sarah’s Oil” is an official nominee at the 57th NAACP Image Awards. The film has been nominated for Outstanding Motion Picture. Actress Naya Desir-Johnson has also been nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Youth for her role as young Sarah Rector.

“@sarahsoilfilm is an NAACP Image Awards nominee!!! So proud of our @whynotyouprod for this incredible moment! ” Wilson captioned his post.

The NAACP, founded in 1967, is one of the most respected civil rights organizations in the United States. The Image Awards recognize outstanding works that have a significant cultural impact.

“Sarah’s Oil” has been nominated for Outstanding Motion Picture alongside cinematic box-office films such as “Sinners” and “Wicked: For Good,” to name a couple.

As for Wilson, his one-year contract with the Giants expired at the end of the season. He will become an unrestricted free agent once the window officially opens in March.
