New York Giants' Russell Wilson is facing a complicated situation for a veteran quarterback. Sharing a quarterback room with a first-round pick.
The Giants traded up to pick Jaxson Dart in April and now, the former Super Bowl champion knows there's pressure to perform or his starting role could be in jeopardy. It's something many experienced quarterbacks have gone through in the latter stages of their careers and now it's his turn to face it.
So far, he's doing it with class and appears to be unfazed.
"Jaxson's been great, man, he's a great worker, great teammate, we're having fun, all of us," Wilson told reporters when asked about Dart. "We have a really good quarterback room. Guys are so focused and working diligently every day. He's going to be an extremely, extremely good talent and everything else throughout his career."
The Giants quarterback was asked if having Dart in the room changed anything for him, a notion he quickly shot down.
"No, it doesn't change anything at all," Wilson said. I think the biggest thing is for me is just being my best every day, leading. I always think about just leading everybody, just leading every room, every moment, every time I get to step between the white lines and the opportunity of that."
Wilson shared it goes beyond the quarterback room as revealed the offense had gone out to dinner recently, sharing a "good time" together with "tons of laughs."
"I think the fellowship of it all is the best part right now," Wilson added. "Obviously, our work ethic and what we're doing in the field. But when it comes to just the tight-knit culture that we're continuing to build and continue to grow, and we want to have a championship football team, and in terms of our mentality and our approach and how we go about it."
