Russell Wilson signs with new team in free agency

This should settle the Giants’ quarterback situation for 2025 regardless of what they do in the draft. They viewed Wilson as a viable option for the bulk of the offseason, but the quarterback’s decision was largely held up by pursuits of Aaron Rodgers. With Rodgers likely to land somewhere other than New York, the Giants apparently made the decision to move quickly and bring Wilson in, and Wilson felt comfortable leaving Pittsburgh.

The Giants already added Jameis Winston in free agency, but it was reported that Wilson was still a potential option for them. They could still pursue a quarterback at No. 3 in the NFL Draft and let that pick develop as a backup.

The Cleveland Browns also had interest in Wilson, but either Cleveland waited too long to make a move or Wilson simply preferred New York.

Wilson threw for 2,482 yards with 16 touchdowns and five interceptions in 11 games for Pittsburgh last season. He faded down the stretch, which hurt his value, but he is still a significant improvement for the Giants, who are coming off a 3-14 campaign. The 36-year-old is not a long-term solution, but if the Giants’ goal is to regain respectability in 2025, he should help.
